Google adds AI voice search to Gmail and tests AI ad summaries, launches email address change in Brazil
Google rolled out Gmail Live, a beta feature that embeds Gemini‑based artificial intelligence into the Gmail app on Android and iOS. The tool lets users perform real‑time voice and natural‑language searches inside their inbox. It is initially offered to subscribers of advanced AI plans and to corporate test groups, with a broader summer rollout planned for the northern‑hemisphere.
In parallel, Google started an experiment that places AI‑generated summaries beneath paid‑search advertisements. The snippets appear with a disclaimer that the text is independent, may contain errors, and is intended to test whether AI‑added context helps consumers make more informed decisions.
The company also introduced a new option for Brazilian users that allows the Gmail address to be changed without creating a new account. The change preserves existing mail, Drive files, photos and linked services, but can be performed only once per year and a maximum of three times over the life of the account.
Marketing analysts observe a shift from traditional SEO toward “Generative Engine Optimization” (GEO), where brands adapt data and content to be cited by generative AI systems such as ChatGPT and Gemini. The rise of “agentic commerce” means companies must make their information readable for AI agents that guide purchase decisions.
