WhatsApp to Drop Support for Older Android and iPhone Devices

Meta announced that WhatsApp will stop working on Android phones that run versions older than Android 6.0 starting 8 September 2026. The same change will affect iPhone users whose devices cannot upgrade to iOS 15.5, with the cutoff on 30 November 2026. Users with incompatible phones will receive in‑app notices and are advised to back up their chats, update the operating system if possible, or migrate the account to a newer device. The update aims to improve security, stability and to enable new features such as AI tools. While Meta has not published an official list of affected models, media reports commonly cite devices such as Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 Mini, Note 2, Motorola Moto G/E (1st gen), LG Optimus series, Sony Xperia Z series, Huawei Ascend models, and iPhone 6 and earlier. Phones that cannot be updated will eventually experience login failures, message‑sending errors and ultimately loss of access to the service.
