Google adds AI‑generated images to Search Overviews

Google is introducing image generation directly inside AI Overviews in Search, using its Nano Banana model. Users can type prompts such as “create a visual that compares a master bedroom with yellow‑gold walls versus sage green walls,” and the system will produce a custom high‑quality image. The rollout will begin in the coming weeks for English‑language users in regions that already support image creation in AI Mode.

The feature is part of a broader redesign of Google Images celebrating its 25‑year anniversary, which includes a new browsable homepage with real‑time image galleries and collection tabs for saving ideas. Google noted that the addition could affect traffic to traditional image search and publishers, as users may obtain the image they need directly from the AI Overview.

Google said, “To help bring those unique ideas to life, we’re bringing image generation directly into AI Overviews in Search,” and added, “This update transforms a simple text prompt into a high‑quality, custom visual made completely from scratch, seamlessly bridging the gap between imagination and reality.”
