Google adds Gemini Omni AI editing and avatars to Vids for paid users

On July 16, 2026 Google expanded its Workspace video‑creation tool, Google Vids, with two new AI features. Gemini Omni lets users generate new clips or edit existing footage through plain‑language prompts, supporting step‑by‑step adjustments such as lighting changes, background swaps, or style tweaks without restarting the edit. The companion Personal Avatars feature creates a digital stand‑in of the user from a selfie and a short voice recording, allowing the avatar to read scripted text in videos.

Both capabilities are limited to paying subscribers. Avatar use is restricted to users aged 18 or older, initially available only in English, and is not offered in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom due to regulatory and privacy requirements. Avatars are tied to the creator’s Google account with verification and enterprise‑admin controls to prevent misuse.
