Google adds per‑app backup control to Android via Google One

Google has introduced a new feature in its Android backup system that lets users decide for each installed app whether its data should be saved to the cloud. The option is accessed through the Google One app under the “Storage → Manage backup” menu, where a list of apps shows an individual toggle beside each one. This granular control helps users avoid backing up large games or rarely used apps, preserving space in the free 15 GB Google One tier.

The update is being rolled out server‑side, first appearing on Google’s own Pixel smartphones before expanding to other Android devices in the coming weeks. By offering per‑app backup settings, Android aligns its backup functionality with Apple’s iOS, which already provides similar detailed controls.
