Google Ads tightens rules for government document ads and blocks free email accounts

Google is updating its Ads policies to require advertisers of government‑issued documents and services to prove explicit government authorization. Providers must have their domain linked from an official government website and may only advertise the authorized services, with geographic targeting limited to the relevant regions. The changes take effect on October 5.

In a separate pilot, Google Ads will prevent accounts using free‑domain email addresses (e.g., @gmail.com, @yahoo.com) from performing sensitive actions such as admin changes or account linking. Only corporate‑domain emails will be allowed, and new passkeys and multi‑party approval may be required for certain administrator updates. The measures aim to curb misleading ads and reduce account hijacks.
