Google AI Gemini teams up with Dragon Quest for Tokyo event

Square Enix and Google announced a joint venture between the Dragon Quest role‑playing series and Google’s Gemini artificial‑intelligence system. The partnership will launch a real‑world event called “Gemini Quest” on 30 July 2026.

The quest will run at four locations in Tokyo – SHIBUYA109 Shibuya, Magnet by SHIBUYA109, Tokyu Plaza Harajuku’s “Harakado” space, and the Harajuku Takeshita‑gate park – from 11:00 to 19:00. Participants use the Gemini app to scan QR codes on monster statues, prompting the AI to generate spell‑like images that simulate battling the monster. Completing the quest yields a “small medal” reward, limited to one per person per venue and subject to early termination once the allocated stock is exhausted. A complementary online component lets users create and share AI‑generated Dragon Quest images on social media.
