Google has rolled out AI Overviews—AI‑generated summaries that appear at the top of search results and draw on the Gemini model. The feature, formerly called the Search Generative Experience, presents a synthesized answer from multiple live sources, then lists organic results beneath it.

The change is already affecting user behavior: click‑through rates have fallen because many queries are answered directly in the overview. SEO experts advise shifting focus from ranking single keywords to securing multiple placements within the overview and enhancing content specificity, authority, and multimedia elements. New guidance includes answering common questions, citing reputable sources, and optimizing product pages.

Google is also testing related AI integrations, such as AI‑generated ad summaries below sponsored listings, AI‑generated content in AdSense ad intents, and the unexpected display of markdown file excerpts within overview snippets. These developments signal a broader move toward AI‑driven search experiences across browsers and devices.
