Google AI Overviews Reduce Reddit Traffic and Prompt User Workarounds

Google has expanded its AI‑generated answer boxes, called AI Overviews, to the top of search results. These summaries aim to give quick answers but often let users skip visiting the original sites. Reddit’s chief executive, Steve Huffman, said the feature has led to a noticeable decline in traffic to Reddit, noting the platform’s $60 million agreement with Google is nearing its end. Huffman added, “We are still waiting for a win‑win situation.”

In response, users can hide the AI answers by appending terms such as "-noia" to queries, adjusting browser search settings, or installing extensions like “Bye Bye Google AI.” The work‑around instructions apply to Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers.
