On 5 August 2026 Alphabet announced a major reorganisation of its artificial‑intelligence division. Demis Hassabis, co‑founder and chief executive of Google DeepMind, stepped down from day‑to‑day management to become chair of DeepMind and chief scientist of Alphabet, while retaining leadership of the drug‑discovery unit Isomorphic Labs.
