Demis Hassabis and Jeff Dean Lead Google AI Restructuring FAST-MOVING

Alphabet announced a major reshuffle of its artificial‑intelligence division. Demis Hassabis, co‑founder and former CEO of Google DeepMind, will step down from day‑to‑day management to become Chair of DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, focusing on the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Koray Kavukcuoglu, the unit’s chief technology officer, will assume operational control as senior vice‑president, overseeing the Gemini model program.

Jeff Dean, Google’s chief scientist for 27 years, is leaving the company together with senior engineer Sanjay Ghemawat and researchers Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le to launch Discovery Loop, a public‑benefit corporation backed by Alphabet as a founding investor and cloud‑services partner.
