Google August spam update impacts AI-generated content sites

Google released a spam update between August 18 and August 21, aimed at addressing web spammalpractices. The update has reportedly had a larger impact than initially anticipated, according to SEO experts.

Reports suggest that websites utilizing large-scale, fully automated AI content generation may have been primary targets. While Google has previously stated it does not oppose AI use provided it is not used to manipulate search results or generate unreviewed synthetic content, many sites using AI to stretch content to deceive algorithms appear to have lost search rankings.

Expert Roger Montti noted that Google recently published research on a Scalable Cluster Termination System (S-CTS) designed to eliminate mass AI-generated spam networks. While there is no direct evidence that S-CTS was applied during this specific August update, the correlation between the update and the decline of AI-heavy sites is a significant point of discussion among SEO professionals.
