Google Beam expands 3D video communication to six countries
Google is expanding the commercial distribution of its 3D video communication technology, Google Beam. The system, provided through HP Dimension hardware, is now being shipped to corporate customers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan.
Unlike standard software updates, Google Beam requires specific hardware, including specialized screens and camera setups, to create a sense of depth and natural eye contact without the need for headsets or glasses. The technology is designed to make remote communication feel more immersive and is compatible with Google Meet and Zoom.
To facilitate adoption, Google has partnered with 18 channel partners and established a network with flexible office provider Industrious. This allows users to access Beam devices in select coworking spaces, such as those in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and Palo Alto, starting in October. In Japan, Daiwabo Information System (DIS) has announced it will act as a distributor to support the market rollout through certified partners.
