Google Chrome for Android introduces customizable New Tab background

Google has added a new "Appearance" panel to Chrome for Android, allowing users to personalize the New Tab page. The feature, released globally in Chrome version 151.0.x, mirrors desktop and iOS capabilities. Users can choose from four main options: revert to the default theme, upload a personal image, select from nine preset tri‑color themes, or pick curated collections such as Landscapes, Architecture, Earth, Patterns, Illustrations and Gradients. An optional "Refresh daily" setting cycles the chosen theme automatically.

The customization is accessed via the three‑dot overflow menu on the New Tab page by tapping "Customize new tab page". The update rolls out as a server‑side change and is available to all Android devices running the supported Chrome version. It represents the first major visual personalization option for Chrome on Android since the browser’s launch.
