Google adds Gemini shortcut and new UI to Chrome on Android
Google is gradually rolling out a redesign of Chrome for Android that introduces a dual‑bar layout with a dedicated Gemini button in the bottom toolbar. The update is limited to a subset of devices and appears differently for U.S. users, where the Gemini button replaces the Home icon. At the same time, Chrome’s on‑device AI features now require roughly 20 GB of free storage before downloading the Gemini Nano model, which occupies about 4 GB after installation.
On Wear OS, Gemini’s interface has been changed to an overlay that appears above the watch face instead of opening a full‑screen app. The overlay uses the Neural Expressive background, shows real‑time transcription of voice queries, and moves the microphone privacy indicator from the bottom to the top of the screen.
Google is also testing a “Device Help” feature for Pixel phones that lets users describe problems in natural language and receive troubleshooting steps directly from Gemini.
