Google Chrome dominates Brazilian browser market share

Google Chrome remains the dominant web browser in Brazil, accounting for 77.1% of usage as of September 2026, according to StatCounter. Its market leadership is driven by its integration with Android devices and Google services, such as Gmail and Drive, which allow for seamless synchronization of passwords, bookmarks, and history across devices.

While Chrome is built upon the open-source Chromium project, the two are distinct. Chromium serves as the technological foundation that allows developers to build various browsers, including Edge and Opera, by providing a rendering engine. Chrome, conversely, is a consumer-ready product that adds proprietary visual elements, update mechanisms, and Google integrations.

Other major browsers serve specific user needs: Safari offers deep integration for Apple ecosystem users; Firefox is noted for prioritizing privacy outside of the Chromium base; and Opera provides built-in features like a VPN and ad blockers. While Chrome offers high compatibility and a vast extension catalog, users may need to manually adjust settings to limit data collection and advertising personalization.
