Google Chrome introduces vertical tabs and critical security updates

Google has released updates for the Chrome browser that introduce significant design changes and critical security patches.

In a major shift to its user interface, Chrome has introduced a native vertical tab option, ending a 15-year reliance on a primarily horizontal design. This feature, titled ‘Show Tabs Vertically’, allows users to move the tab bar from the top of the window to the side. The change is intended to improve visibility and organization for users managing a high number of open websites, particularly on widescreen monitors where vertical lists utilize space more efficiently than shrinking horizontal tabs.

Simultaneously, Google has released Chrome version 151 to address 15 security vulnerabilities. Two of these are classified as critical, involving buffer overflows in the WebGL and Dawn graphics processing components. An additional 13 vulnerabilities are rated as high risk, including use-after-free issues and type-confusion vulnerabilities within the V8 JavaScript engine. Google has withheld specific details regarding the flaws to prevent exploitation before users can apply the necessary updates.
