Google Chrome RAM usage reputation challenged as myth

The long-standing reputation of Google Chrome as a memory-intensive browser is largely considered a myth rather than a technical reality. While Chrome does utilize significant amounts of RAM, this behavior is a deliberate design choice intended to improve stability and speed.

Modern websites function more like complex applications than simple text pages, requiring more resources to handle media, tasks, and background extensions. To prevent a single tab crash from closing the entire browser, Chrome assigns individual processes to different tabs and sites. While this approach consumes more memory, it ensures that the browser remains fast and stable.

Experts suggest that empty RAM is essentially wasted resource. Using available memory to keep pages and media ready for immediate access is a more efficient use of modern hardware. With 8GB of RAM being standard for general use, the memory Chrome occupies is often within the expected parameters for contemporary web browsing.
