Google Chrome releases urgent security update to patch active exploits

Google has released Chrome version 153, which includes 230 security patches to address several critical vulnerabilities. The update marks a transition to a bi-weekly update cycle.

A primary concern is the CVE-2026-87491 vulnerability, a buffer overflow flaw in the V8 JavaScript engine. This flaw allows remote attackers to execute malicious code within the browser's sandbox environment via a malicious HTML page. Additionally, the update addresses five critical issues, four of which originate from the WebGL component.

Google has noted that at least one of the patched vulnerabilities is currently being exploited in the wild. Users are urged to update immediately to versions 153.0.8010.36/.37 on Windows and Mac, or 153.0.8010.36 on Linux. Because Chromium serves as the foundation for many other browsers, developers of those platforms may also need to implement similar fixes.
