Google Chrome tests redesigned three-dot menu with search bar
Google is testing a significant redesign of the Chrome browser’s three-dot menu, currently being developed under the internal project names “WebUI Refresh 2026” or “GlowUp.” Spotted in the Chrome Canary testing version, the update aims to simplify navigation through the browser’s increasingly complex settings and submenus.
A central feature of the redesign is a new search bar pinned to the top of the menu. This tool allows users to quickly find specific settings, bookmarks, and recent history items by typing keywords, with results categorized for easier scanning.
Other visual and functional updates include:
• Grouping menu options into distinct, color-coded blocks or tiles for faster access. • Redesigning common actions, such as New Tab, New Window, and Incognito mode, into prominent buttons at the top. • Replacing hover-based scroll arrows with a standard scrollbar. • Pinning the menu footer to ensure links like “Settings” and “Help” remain visible while navigating.
While these features have been demonstrated by testers on X, Google has not yet announced a specific release date for the stable version of Chrome.
