Google Cloud and RemotiveLabs partner for virtual vehicle design

Google Cloud and Swedish automotive software company RemotiveLabs have announced a partnership to accelerate virtual vehicle development. The collaboration integrates RemotiveLabs’ RemotiveTopology visualization platform with Google Cloud’s Horizon software development platform.

This integration enables the creation of “digital twins,” allowing engineering teams to design and test entire virtual vehicles in the cloud. By simulating a vehicle’s electrical and electronic architecture—including electronic control units, networks, and signals—developers can test software against a virtual model before physical hardware or prototypes are manufactured.

The companies aim to facilitate “shift-left” development, a process that moves integration and testing earlier in the design cycle. According to Google Cloud, this approach can lead to a 40% reduction in feature development costs, improved quality through higher test coverage, and software testing speeds up to nine times faster in a virtual environment. The technology supports various vehicle protocols, including CAN, FlexRay, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
