Google Cloud appoints Amit Kumar as interim India head

Google Cloud has appointed Amit Kumar as the interim head of its India operations, succeeding Sashikumar Sreedharan. Sreedharan is departing the company to pursue other opportunities.

Kumar, who has been with Google Cloud since March 2021, previously served as the managing director for the company’s digital-native business. His recent focus has been on driving generative AI adoption among India’s startup ecosystem. His professional background includes leadership roles at Apple, IBM, and Microsoft.

The leadership transition occurs amid rapid growth in India’s cloud and AI sectors. Google Cloud currently operates two regions in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. This expansion follows the company’s announcement of a $15 billion investment to develop a large-scale AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which is intended to include a gigawatt-scale data center campus.
