Google confirms Android 18 details via Dev Summit program

Google has officially confirmed the existence of Android 18, following its appearance in the program for the upcoming Android Dev Summit 2026, scheduled for October 28–29.

Initial details focus on enhanced graphical capabilities for developers using Jetpack Compose. The new operating system is expected to introduce advanced visual effects, such as mesh gradients—which use a grid of points to create complex, organic color transitions—and progressive blurs.

Google aims to implement these sophisticated interface elements while prioritizing performance and energy efficiency. The company intends to ensure that these richer visual experiences do not negatively impact battery life or system fluidity.
