Google DeepMind researchers achieve breakthroughs in AI auctions and Turing machine analysis

Researchers from Google DeepMind and Google Research have demonstrated that simulated AI prompt auctions can preserve 99.2% of modeled welfare compared to an oracle allocation. Using first-price auctions, models submitted bids for prompts, with the highest bidder receiving the request. This mechanism suggests a potential method for routing requests among competing AI models, including within cryptocurrency ecosystems.

In a separate development, a Gemini-based AI agent developed by Google DeepMind and the University of Cambridge has discovered mathematical acceleration rules for 11 previously unanalyzed six-state Turing machines. The system, which targeted the Busy Beaver BB(6) frontier, examined 1,094 machines and flagged 52 for deeper study. The agent identified these machines, provisionally named ‘Cryptids,’ and generated formal proofs for the new rules using the Lean 4 theorem prover. While the rules describe machine behavior compactly, they do not yet conclusively determine if the machines will eventually halt.
