Google enables digital transit card transfers to Google Wallet

Google has begun rolling out an update to Google Play Services (version 26.35) that allows users to digitize physical transit cards into Google Wallet. This feature utilizes NFC technology to scan compatible cards, enabling the transfer of information such as available balances and passes directly to the smartphone.

Once digitized, users can access public transportation services, including buses, subways, and trains, by tapping their devices against compatible readers. The availability of this feature is not universal; it depends on the compatibility of specific transit systems, local operators, and the technology installed in turnstiles. The rollout is being conducted gradually via Google Play Services and does not require a full Android system update.
