Google evaluates 1,000-acre site for Virginia data center campus
Google is conducting due diligence on approximately 1,000 acres of land within the West Creek Business Park in Goochland County, Virginia. The company aims to develop a data center campus with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
The proposed site is located east of Route 288 and north of Patterson Avenue. Because the property sits within the county’s recently approved Technology Overlay District, a data center facility would qualify as a “by-right use,” meaning the project would not be required to undergo the standard public hearing process.
Google has not yet filed formal plans. If the company proceeds with the land purchase, the next phase will involve site engineering to develop a plan for submission to the county. The land is currently owned by entities linked to Pruitt Associates and Riverstone Group. This potential development follows previous regulatory filings that mentioned large-scale data center projects in the region without naming the specific investor.
