Google forms new AI chip development team in Israel

Google has formed a specialized team in Israel to develop new artificial intelligence chips designed for robots and autonomous systems. According to reports from Haaretz, the initiative aims to create hardware capable of running AI tasks directly on devices rather than relying on cloud servers, which would accelerate processing speeds and reduce cloud resource dependency.

The new team is led by Guy Kaminitz, CEO of the Israeli tech company Hailo. Additionally, Google has reportedly engaged Ido Bukspan, former CEO of NVIDIA Israel and current head of Pliops, to assist in developing chips for network data transfer.

Google began its chip development operations in Israel through its Google Cloud division in 2021. The company currently employs approximately 700 engineers across Tel Aviv and Haifa working on computing infrastructure and chip design. Google has declined to comment on these specific developments.
