Google expands AI-generated snippets and Overviews in search and shopping ads

Google is testing AI‑generated snippets on its Shopping ads and expanding AI Overviews, which now appear in roughly 43%–48% of all search queries, according to data from Similarweb and Semrush. The company also blamed source websites for a race‑based AI Overview response, shifting responsibility for the content of the AI answer.

Additional experiments include showing related searches based on a user’s browsing history, a read‑later queue in Google Discover, and a new help document for setting up offline conversions using the GBRAID URL parameter. In parallel, Microsoft reported a 10% increase in its search advertising revenue as part of its earnings release.

These developments reflect a broader shift toward Search Everywhere Optimization, where brands must ensure their content is visible across AI‑driven discovery surfaces such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and various Google platforms, rather than relying solely on traditional SEO rankings.
