Google expands AI news licensing and search sharing features

Google is implementing new strategies to manage the relationship between artificial intelligence and digital publishers. Through its ‘News AI’ licensing program, the company now compensates more than 400 publications worldwide for the use of their content. Recent additions to this program include major outlets such as CNN, Axios, Forbes, and the Financial Times, alongside various local American news organizations.

Simultaneously, Google has increased the visibility and placement of links within its AI-generated search responses. This move aims to direct traffic back to source websites, addressing concerns that AI summaries might deprive publishers of visitors.

In a separate development, a recent job posting for a Senior Product Manager for AI Google Search Growth indicates the company is developing a ‘Share System’ and ‘Live Notifications’ for Search. This role is tasked with creating new AI sharing paradigms from the ground up, potentially changing how users interact with and distribute AI-generated information.
