Google expands AI suite with Pinpoint research tool and Gemini shopping features
Google introduced Pinpoint, an AI‑driven research assistant that can scan up to 200,000 documents—including PDFs, handwritten notes, emails and images—in a single operation. The tool extracts names of people, organisations and locations and includes an integrated audio transcriber that converts interview recordings to text, positioning it as a heavy‑weight solution for journalists, historians and data analysts. Pinpoint complements NotebookLM, which is designed for summarising and creatively using uploaded sources.
In a separate update, Google added shopping capabilities to its Gemini app. Users can now request personalised product suggestions, view visual carousels of gift ideas, and receive side‑by‑side comparison tables with specifications, prices, reviews and inventory data. The feature is powered by Google’s Shopping Graph, which aggregates more than 50 billion product listings, with roughly two billion items refreshed each hour, enabling near‑real‑time pricing and availability information.
