Google expands AirDrop compatibility to older Pixel devices

Google is expanding its Quick Share feature to enable interoperability with Apple’s AirDrop on older hardware. Reports indicate that users of the Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series, and Pixel Tablet have begun receiving notifications regarding this compatibility.

This rollout follows an initial release for the Pixel 10 series and subsequent expansion to the Pixel 8a and Pixel 11 families. The feature aims to bridge the gap between Android and iOS, allowing users to share photos and documents directly between devices without relying on mobile data.

However, the implementation currently appears unstable. Some users have reported receiving notifications for the feature but finding it non-functional. This suggests that Google may be conducting a phased rollout or testing the functionality before a full, stable release. To facilitate receiving files from a Pixel device, iPhone users must manually set their AirDrop receiving settings to ‘Everyone for 10 Minutes’ within their General settings.
