Google expands Android Auto with new car UI and motorcycle‑focused navigation
Google announced a major update to Android Auto that will reach more than 250 million compatible vehicles. The redesign adopts Material 3 design, removes dead space on dashboards and delivers an edge‑to‑edge, immersive 3D Google Maps experience powered by AI. New features include custom‑isable widgets, shortcuts to contacts or garage doors, smoother animations, and for the first time video playback on compatible cars such as BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes‑Benz, Renault, Škoda, Tata and Volvo.
A parallel enhancement adds a motorcycle‑optimized navigation mode through the third‑party Sygic app, now available on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The update provides rider‑specific data such as elevation, weather forecasts, fuel‑station alerts and scenic‑route options, plus pulsing visual alerts for hazards. This expands Android Auto’s utility beyond traditional cars to two‑wheelers.
