Google Health 5.11 update expands activity tracking and health monitoring

Google is rolling out version 5.11 of its Google Health application, introducing significant upgrades to activity tracking and health monitoring for Pixel Watch and Fitbit users. The update expands automatic activity detection from 10 exercises to over 100, including strength training, swimming, golf, and various team sports. By utilizing contextual reasoning—incorporating heart rate, historical data, user corrections, and location—Google claims the system is twice as accurate and reduces missed workouts by more than half.

For Google Health Premium subscribers, the update introduces the ‘Health Guardian’ suite for Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge devices. This feature allows users to monitor trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance through non-invasive signal analysis rather than direct medical measurements. Users can expect monthly health reports and personalized wellness tips via the Google Health Coach.

Additional improvements in version 5.11 include enhanced sleep tracking with better awake detection, simplified glucose monitoring with updated visualization charts, and integration with third-party apps like Flo Health and MyFitnessPal. The rollout is currently underway for both iOS and Android platforms, supporting Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5, as well as Fitbit Air and the upcoming Fitbit Edge.
