Google expands Gemini AI to in-person meeting notes and NotebookLM
Google has expanded its Gemini AI capabilities across several productivity tools. Google Meet now includes a ‘Take notes for me’ feature that works for in-person meetings. By using a smartphone or computer as a recording device, the AI captures audio from face-to-face discussions and automatically generates structured summaries, action items, and full transcripts. These documents are saved directly to Google Drive and shared via email. The rollout began in August 2026, with availability staggered across Android, Web, and iOS platforms for specific Google Workspace and Google AI subscription tiers.
Additionally, Google’s NotebookLM (now referred to as Gemini Notebook) continues to serve as a specialized research assistant. Unlike general-purpose chatbots, this tool focuses strictly on the documents, PDFs, videos, and spreadsheets provided by the user to ensure responses are grounded in specific source material. It is designed to help researchers and professionals organize large amounts of information and discover new insights from their own uploaded data.
