Google expands Gemini AI to K‑12 classrooms and rebrands NotebookLM

Google announced that its Gemini AI tools will be made available to K‑12 and higher‑education students through Google Classroom starting on August 10 for web and August 17 for mobile. The default setting is on, so schools that have not disabled the feature will see students automatically gain access to Gemini‑generated flashcards, practice quizzes, study guides and other interactive learning aids. Administrators can still restrict access for users under 18 or turn the feature off entirely.

At the same time, Google rebranded NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook, integrating the notebook experience into the broader Gemini ecosystem. The rollout for paid Google AI Ultra, Pro and Plus subscribers began with web access in April 2026 and mobile access following weeks later. Gemini Notebook now supports persistent knowledge bases, contextual chat, and downloadable outputs such as charts, PDFs, spreadsheets and images, aimed at streamlining research and content creation workflows.
