Google launches Gemini 4 Argon and restructures AI model access

Google has announced Gemini 4 Argon, a flagship AI model specifically engineered for complex software engineering and cybersecurity tasks. The model features a significant increase in output capacity, rising from 64,000 to 1 million tokens, enabling it to handle extensive codebases and long-form research. Argon has demonstrated high performance on industry benchmarks, including 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1 and 68% on CWE-bench v1. It is currently being tested through the Fairwind program with select cybersecurity professionals.

Simultaneously, Google is restructuring access to its Gemini models for personal accounts. Starting October 9, 2026, free users will be restricted to the Flash-Lite model, losing access to the Flash and Pro versions. Google AI Plus subscribers will also face changes, losing access to the Pro model and being limited to Flash and Flash-Lite. To maintain access to the Pro model, users must upgrade to the AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. Notably, the AI Pro tier will gain access to the Deep Think feature, which provides advanced parallel reasoning capabilities previously reserved for Ultra subscribers.
