Google Photos rolls out AI‑powered Video Remix feature

Google announced on July 8 2026 that Google Photos will include a new AI‑driven tool called Video Remix. The feature resides in the app’s Create tab and lets users transform existing video clips with simple text prompts. Powered by Google’s Gemini Omni multimodal model, Video Remix can apply cinematic relighting, replace backgrounds, and render videos in artistic styles such as watercolor, sketchbook or oil‑painting. Clips are limited to ten seconds, and the AI processes each request in the cloud within a few seconds.

The tool is available only to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra plans. At launch it is being rolled out in the United States and a selected group of countries – Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Turkey – with no announced date for European markets. Edited videos carry an invisible SynthID watermark that indicates AI generation.

Google frames Video Remix as part of a broader push to embed generative AI across its consumer services, aiming to let casual users create polished, share‑worthy videos without professional software.
