Google Search Console launches generative AI performance reports

Google has rolled out generative AI performance reports to all users within Google Search Console. This new feature allows website owners to track how their content appears within Google’s AI-integrated features, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode in Search and Discover.

The report provides data on impressions, specific pages appearing in AI features, visibility by country, and device usage. However, it currently lacks click and query data, meaning users can see how often their content is surfaced by AI but cannot yet see how many users are actually clicking through to their sites.

The emergence of these tools highlights the rise of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), a discipline focused on making brands visible and citable within AI-generated responses rather than just traditional search engine results pages. While traditional SEO focuses on rankings and traffic, GEO emphasizes mentions and citations within AI models.
