Google expands Google Meet live translation to 63 languages
Google is expanding its AI-powered speech translation feature for Google Meet to 63 languages, including Turkish. Powered by Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, the new system can automatically detect the language being spoken during a video conference, allowing participants to listen to translations in their preferred language in near real-time.
Unlike previous versions that required a single language pair to be configured for the entire meeting, the updated system supports multiple languages being spoken within the same session. Participants can individually enable the feature via the meeting toolbar and can also specify languages they already understand to prevent unnecessary translations. The system provides simultaneous translated audio and subtitle support.
The feature is available through specific Google Workspace and Google AI subscriptions. For scheduled meetings, the organizer must have an eligible subscription for all participants to access the feature. In one-on-one calls, only one participant needs an eligible plan. Translation time limits vary by tier: basic eligible Workspace plans and Google AI Pro are limited to 90 minutes per meeting, while AI Ultra, AI Expanded Access, and AI Ultra Access plans allow up to eight hours.
