Google TV expands Freeplay with 10,000 free on-demand titles

Google TV has significantly expanded its Freeplay service, adding more than 10,000 on-demand movies and shows to its library. This update allows users to access content directly through the Google TV interface without the need to download additional applications.

Operating on the Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) model, the service provides content at no cost in exchange for advertisements. In addition to the new on-demand library, which includes titles from partners such as A24 and Lionsgate, the platform has expanded its live TV offerings to include over 300 channels covering news, sports, reality TV, and true crime.

This move positions Google to compete more aggressively in the growing free streaming market, alongside services like Tubi, Pluto TV, and The Roku Channel, as traditional subscription-based streaming services continue to increase their prices.
