Google expands Play Age Signals API to global Android market

Google is extending its Play Age Signals API, which supplies Android apps with a user’s age range (0‑12, 13‑15, 16‑17, 18+) instead of a full birthdate. The system, already available in Brazil, will be rolled out to Australia and Canada by mid‑August 2026 and then to Google Play users worldwide by the end of 2026. Parents can control the sharing of age information through Google Family Link, and apps receive only the age bracket, which cannot be used for advertising, marketing, or profiling.

The rollout supports compliance with emerging age‑verification regulations, such as Texas’s app‑store responsibility law, and enables developers to tailor content, safety features, and consent requests to the appropriate age group, strengthening protection for minors on Android devices.
