Google fixes bug affecting older Chromecast device configuration
Google has released a fix for a software bug that prevented users from configuring older generations of Chromecast devices through the Google Home app. The issue, which persisted for several weeks, made it impossible to add or reconfigure older models, including Chromecast Audio, following a previous app update.
The situation was complicated by Google updating its support pages to indicate that many first and second-generation Chromecasts were no longer supported. This led many users to believe their hardware had failed or reached its end-of-life, when the issue was actually a software malfunction within the app.
To resolve the issue, users should update the Google Home app to version 4.26 or later. While this fix restores configuration capabilities, Google notes that first-generation Chromecasts remain officially unsupported, meaning certain applications may still face compatibility issues.
