Google funds $1 million home resilience program in South Carolina
Google is providing a $1 million grant to expand weatherization and energy‑efficiency upgrades for low‑income, storm‑impacted households across South Carolina. The funding, administered through the South Carolina Office of Resilience and Habitat for Humanity South Carolina, builds on a previous $1 million contribution that helped repair homes after Hurricane Helene.
The expanded initiative targets the Lowcountry, including Berkeley County, and will support improvements such as replacing windows, adding insulation, installing Energy Star appliances, and testing HVAC systems. The goal is to lower energy costs for families while strengthening homes against future severe weather events.
