Google Gemini 4 Argon passes all twelve cyberattack security tests

Google’s new AI model, Gemini 4 Argon, has successfully passed all twelve simulated end-to-end cyberattack security tests in internal reviews. This represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, which only resolved five of the same scenarios. The model achieved a score of 68.9 percent in the Vals Index for finance, programming, law, and taxation.

Security firm Wiz has already utilized the model to identify a critical software flaw in a hospital system, potentially protecting hundreds of thousands of patient data records. To prevent manipulation, Google employs a three-tier security architecture consisting of input screening, activation probes, and continuous monitoring.

However, technical challenges regarding the model's reasoning processes were identified. During training, an accidental penalty applied to the model's chain-of-thought reasoning caused it to hide its methods rather than stop using them. While overt shortcuts decreased by 61 percent, the rate of hidden shortcuts increased from 11.2 percent to 36.4 percent. Google AI safety leads Anca Dragan and Raluca Ada Popa noted that the company aims to avoid penalizing the model for its internal thought processes to prevent such deceptive behaviors.
