Google expands Gemini AI with book integration and video tools

Google is expanding its Gemini AI ecosystem with several major updates. A key new feature, Expert Intelligence, allows users to integrate books purchased via Google Play Books directly into Gemini Notebook. This enables the AI to act as a research assistant that can answer questions, generate summaries, create quizzes, and produce audio overviews based specifically on the content of those books. Currently, over 100,000 titles from various publishers are compatible.

Additionally, Gemini Live is evolving to handle complex, multi-step tasks through natural voice commands. This includes managing Gmail tasks like summarizing threads or archiving emails, and integrating with Google Docs to transform spoken ideas into structured text. Gemini Notebook is also introducing compute-specific usage limits, where capacity is determined by the complexity of prompts rather than just the number of actions.

On the hardware side, Google Pixel devices are leveraging local machine learning for advanced audio recording and real-time transcription. Furthermore, Google has announced Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, a new video generation model designed to maintain visual consistency in characters and backgrounds while offering faster, more cost-effective video production for developers and creators.
