Google Gemini Powers New “Magic Pointer” AI-Enhanced Mouse Cursor

Google announced the “Magic Pointer,” an AI‑augmented mouse cursor built on its Gemini large language model. Integrated into the forthcoming Googlebooks – AI‑focused Chromebooks slated for release in 2026 – the cursor lets users trigger Gemini‑driven functions directly from the pointer without opening separate applications. By selecting or highlighting content, users can ask the system to summarize text, edit images, generate new graphics, add text overlays, or even place orders for products shown on the screen. Activation is possible via the Google key or a brief shake of the cursor. Google has not yet confirmed whether the feature will appear on Pixel desktop devices, but it signals a broader push to embed generative AI across its hardware ecosystem.
