Google Gemini redesign draws user criticism over legibility and navigation

Google’s Gemini AI chat app received mixed reactions after its latest visual overhaul. While the new design introduces variable‑weight Roboto Flex typography, smoother animations, and a more dynamic colour palette, many users report that the thinner fonts reduce readability, especially on bright screens or for those with visual impairments.

The update also reshuffles core navigation elements. Long‑standing shortcuts have been moved or merged, requiring extra steps to attach images, send files, or request AI‑generated content. A particularly contentious change is the relocation of the Google‑account switcher from the top‑right corner—where it was consistently placed across Gmail, Drive, Maps, and other services—to a lower panel, causing confusion for daily users.
