Google Health update improves automatic activity detection

Google Health 5.11 introduces a significant update to automatic activity detection for compatible wearable devices. The update expands the system's capability from recognizing approximately ten sports to identifying more than 100 different types of activities, including strength training, swimming, racket sports, and various team sports.

This enhancement is designed to work more accurately by utilizing user routines and previous activity data. When users manually confirm a detected activity, the system learns to improve future accuracy. The update aims to reduce missed activities by half and double the accuracy of activity assignment. Users can also customize the standard 15-minute detection threshold to better suit their specific routines.

The update is available for Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge, and Pixel Watch models 3, 4, and 5. Additional features in version 5.11 include the introduction of Health Guardian for Fitbit Air and improved detection of wake moments during sleep, allowing users to manually remove incorrectly detected naps.
