Google holds community sessions for proposed data centers

Google is conducting community engagement sessions regarding its proposed data center projects in Pine Island and Hermantown. In Pine Island, the company held a celebration for ‘Project Skyway’ to provide information, though some residents expressed concerns regarding noise, health, and the timing of donations amidst an active injunction.

In Hermantown, Google held a listening session to present updated building designs and site plans. During the session, Google representatives detailed the projected economic benefits, including an estimated $12 million in increased tax revenue for the city and a $4.5 million community betterment fund. Additionally, the company committed $42.7 million to the Hermantown School Foundation. Despite these financial promises, some local residents expressed dissatisfaction with the company’s transparency and voiced opposition to the environmental impact of the development.
