Google rolls out Gemini Personal Intelligence for Android Auto

Google has begun the global rollout of its Gemini AI assistant with a new feature called Personal Intelligence for Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google built-in. This update allows the assistant to access data from connected Google services, including Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search, to provide highly contextualized responses through natural language commands.

Key capabilities include retrieving flight gate information and delay status by cross-referencing Gmail confirmations with real-time flight data, navigating to medical appointments found in a user's calendar without manual address entry, and locating businesses from previously captured Google Photos. The system also supports conversational continuity, allowing drivers to reference previous discussions, such as asking to visit a cafe mentioned the day before.

To ensure privacy, the feature is disabled by default and requires explicit user opt-in. Users can manage or revoke permissions for specific apps at any time. While the rollout is global, the Personal Intelligence features are currently excluded from the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria due to regional privacy regulations such as GDPR.
