Google Android Pulse app monitors system resource anomalies

Google’s Android Pulse app has recently gained widespread attention after appearing in Google Play Store update queues, often without a visible icon. Despite the sudden visibility, the app is an official Google system tool rather than malware.

Android Pulse functions as a background diagnostic service designed to detect anomalies in critical system resource consumption. It monitors how the Android operating system and installed applications utilize essential hardware components, including the battery, CPU, and memory (RAM). By identifying software that behaves erratically—such as processes that cause excessive battery drain, overheating, or system lag—the tool helps maintain device stability.

While many users only recently noticed the app due to recent Play Store updates, technical records indicate that Google has been distributing various builds of Android Pulse since March 2026. The application has already surpassed 10 million downloads. On certain devices, such as the Pixel series, it may appear in system settings with a green heartbeat icon, whereas on other devices, it may appear as an unlabeled square in update lists.
